Applications

From home wastewater systems to ponds and aquariums, see how Hiblow linear air pumps are used and which models suit the job.

Septic & wastewater

Aerated wastewater treatment systems (AWTS) need a steady supply of air so the good bacteria can break down waste. Hiblow linear air pumps run quietly around the clock to keep your system working.

What the air pump does

In an aerated system, the air pump pushes air down a line to a diffuser at the bottom of the aeration chamber. Fine bubbles keep the water full of oxygen, so aerobic bacteria can break waste down into clear, treated water that can be used to irrigate the garden. If the pump stops, those bacteria start to die off, the system turns septic and starts to smell, and most systems will sound an alarm.

Where it's used

  • Home aerated wastewater treatment systems (AWTS)
  • Commercial and farm treatment plants, using the HP-100 to HP-200
  • Replacement pumps for most common Australian systems
  • Biological contact aeration in septic tanks

Why a Hiblow linear air pump

  • Clean, oil-free air, so nothing upsets the bacteria
  • One moving assembly: no motor, bearings or brushes to wear
  • Easy to service: swap a kit in minutes with a screwdriver
  • Built to run 24/7 on low power
  • Quiet, rainproof and made to sit outdoors

Suitable Hiblow models

Septic tank aeration is listed on the HP-40/60/80, HP-80+ and XP series datasheets.

Hiblow HP-40 · 40 L/min at 12.8 kPa · 38 W
Hiblow HP-60 · 60 L/min at 14.7 kPa · 51 W
Hiblow HP-80 · 80 L/min at 14.7 kPa · 71 W
Hiblow HP-80+ · 90 L/min at 17 kPa · 77 W
Hiblow XP-80 · 80 L/min at 14.7 kPa · 58 W

For larger systems, the HP-100 to HP-200 datasheet also lists this use.

How it works

Why aerated septics need an air pump

An aerated wastewater treatment system (AWTS) relies on good bacteria to break down waste, and those bacteria need oxygen. Your linear air pump supplies it, around the clock.

Without airThe good bacteria can't survive. Waste isn't broken down, sludge builds up and the system starts to smell.

With a Hiblow linear air pumpFine bubbles feed the bacteria, the water clears and the treated water can be used on your garden.
  1. STEP 1Septic chamberSolids settle to the bottom as sludge.
  2. STEP 2Aeration chamberThe air pump feeds a diffuser, and bacteria break the waste down.
  3. STEP 3ClarifierRemaining solids settle out of the water.
  4. STEP 4Chlorine chamberThe water is disinfected, then pumped out to irrigate.

Tip: a working air pump makes a low, steady hum. If you can't hear it, call your service technician, or call us on 02 9457 8622 about a replacement.
